In October 2017, 14 friends ran 10 marathons in 10 days across Sierra Leone.
From start to finish they faced some of the toughest running conditions imaginable. Mountainous rainforests combined with 90% humidity and 35 degree heat pushed the team to their physical and mental limits.
Dehydration, fatigue and injury prevention was a constant battle. Dirt tracks, uneven terrain, river crossings, dense rainforests and the scorching African sun ensured this was no normal ultra-marathon.
The Sierra 2016 team raised over £100,000 for 2 charities they were very passionate about, Street Child and MIND.
Since 2008 Street Child has helped thousands of vulnerable children access education and supported thousands of families.
MIND does outstanding work to achieve its aim of providing advice and support to empower anyone experiencing a mental health problem whilst also campaigning to improve services, raise awareness and promote understanding.
