The Pan-Andean Challenge
In January 2015, University of Exeter graduates Gareth Davies and Joe Barrs embarked on a record- breaking land-sailing expedition through South America. Their aim, to travel 2,500 miles in 56 days, from Ushuaia, the southernmost city in Argentina, to the Chilean capital, Santiago. They travelled by 'Whike', a recumbent tricycle with a removable sail mounted on top. This sustainable mode of long-distance touring allows you to 'land-sail' when the wind is good and pedal when it is not.
In just 50 days they completed the challenge, Gareth and Joe cycled 2,657 miles from Ushuaia to Santiago, going via Mendoza, Argentina to make a summit attempt on Mt. Aconcagua. Not forgetting the fact that they had to cycle from Punta Arenas to the start point in Ushuaia in the first place.
In October we sponsored the Pan-Andean team in hosting a Charity Dinner in the iconic Long Room at Lord’s Cricket Ground in London. Continuing in their bid to raise £25,000, the black tie event was hosted by former player and cricket journalist Simon Hughes and former England cricket captain Michael Vaughan attended. The evening was a fantastic success, guests enjoyed a tour of the stadium, a three course meal, drinks and charity auction. With over £20,000 in total raised for two deserving charities, Altum Consulting are very proud to be involved with the Pan- Andean Challenge 2015.
